در روز 20 ماه می، فعالین و همراهان در کمیته های دفاع از مبارزات مردم ایران-شیکاگو و انجمن سکولار دمکراسی-شیکاگو در تظاهرات برای مخالفت با پیمان ناتو و سیاستهای آن شرکت نمودند و با حمل پلاکارتهای در اعتراض به نظامیگری و تهاجمات امپریالیستی و در عین حال محکومیت سرکوبهای حقوق دمکراتیک مردم ایران از طرف رژیم جمهوری اسلامی، صدای آزادی خواهانه ، عدالتجویانه و صلح جویانه مردم ایران را در این تظاهرات عظیم منعکس کردند.
The summit meeting of the NATO military alliance in Chicago has only one purpose and that is to expand the hegemony of the major western powers and in particular that of the U.S imperialism around the world. The Middle East region and its vast oil reserves is of vital interest to the NATO policy makers. Wars and aggressions are the byproducts of such policies. As pro-justice and pro-democracy, concerned Iranian activists we are gravely concerned about start of yet another war and this time on Iran. The people of Iran and the region face a possible catastrophic war. In case of any military clash in the region only the people and not the elites will receive the brunt of the immense destruction. As the drumbeats for war on Iran are getting louder, it is imperative for all progressive individuals who oppose the war, to concurrently express their views and take effective actions against any foreign intervention - with any pretext – as well as taking a strong stand against the political repression by the oppressive governments in Iran and the region and simultaneously provide moral support for the people’s struggle and their aspirations for democratic rights and social justice.
At the present, the world is in the midst of one of its worst economic crisis. Joblessness, poverty, violations of civil liberties, spread of religious fundamentalism and environmental destructions are among many social ills that the people of the world confront. But tragically, militarist and adventurist approaches by the imperialist powers and the authoritarian local and regional regimes, increasingly, worsen the life for the people. In the meantime, the emancipatory uprisings against political repression and poverty are underway in the Middle East and the North African countries, and have already brought down a number of oppressive dictatorial regimes. The Occupation Movements in the western countries have also risen for real democracy and economic justice. In this moment of history, more than ever, start of another war is an ultimate criminal act, against humanity. We believe it is vital for all of us to oppose war as well as violations of civil liberties, economic inequality, unjust imprisonment, racial and gender discrimination, suppression of labor unions and … in the U.S., Iran, Israel, Afghanistan, and everywhere in the world. Only thru a principled stand and united action in defense of human rights, justice and dignity for all, we can bring about peace and progress in the world. Those opposing foreign intervention in Iran should not remain silent about the reign of theoretic dictatorship in Iran. Let’s stand together in solidarity, and stop the start of yet another devastating war.
